Earlier today, I had the opportunity to attend the Panguni annual festival being held at the Kabaleeshwar temple in Mylapore, Chennai from the 13th – 24th of this month. Today was the famed ‘Therottam’ where ornate chariots carrying different deities go around the temple. Suffice to say, it was a long affair, starting at 7.15 am in the morning and saw hundreds of thousands of devotees attending the event.
Often in events of this scale, it is easy to forget all those elements and people who come together and contribute to the event. When I set out this morning on my self-appointed task, I wanted to capture such behind the scenes moments. But sometimes, it is easy to forget that all life is part of a complex story written by chance by the forces that be and that I too am a part of this complex dance. So while I was playing my part clicking photographs, wondering about what story I would have to tell, and generally hoping for the best, the world too went on, chaos and rhythm coming together to form an amazing experience that went beyond my self-assigned task, and turned into a memory that I would cherish for a long time. Here are some scenes from the festival. Happy viewing!
